The Hive transforms a former parking lot into a fresh community hub that tells the story of the past, present, and future of Kamloops. Designed to foster the evolution of the city’s downtown core, it features retail spaces with ample, well-lit walkways and office space above. The office space is set behind a brick façade that speaks to the historical brick buildings in the area, while recessed spaces reveal the honey-colored wood of the inset patio. A glazed corner is punched into the brickwork, creating corner views for the offices and a focal point for onlookers.

Kamloops’ climate was a key consideration in our design, which offers protected outdoor spaces for the offices above and for pedestrians below. A generous pedestrian walkway on 5th Ave will feature smaller glazed façades ideal for independent retail stores, restaurants, and cafes. Planters, a new sidewalk, and new trees will revitalize the streetscape. Over the longer term, the building will set a new visual standard for buildings in the area, helping the downtown core of this growing community continue to evolve.
